Glitter Frankens

Racy Tracee

Equinox

Hello! I have had a major lemming for Lippmann Collection-Superstar. I discovered it way after the holidays when it was too late to get it. So I was planning a franken. I found some brown glitter at Michael's, and it was in a sample pack of 16 different color glitters! So I thought I'd mix and match and have fun.

The first one, which I dubbed Racy Tracee, Was actually black and a pinkish red mixed into a black jelly base. But the colors sort of melted and mixed into a dark cherry color. Now that makes me a bit hesitant to mix together all sorts of colors cuz it might just melt and look like poo. And my Superstar dupe is alright. It doesn't seem to have the melt problem. I rather like it! I added a brown creme to clear polish to get a brown jelly base and added all the brown glitter!! It works, but this glitter all settles at the bottom. You just have to shake well before you use it. The particle size is nice though. It looks just the same size as the glitter in RBL's Frugalista and Locavore.

NOTD: NYX - Elaine

Hello! Today I chose a work appropriate color since we are having a meeting today with people from outside our office and I try to look professional for such sintuations!

I am sporting NYX-Elaine, and I am not going to lie, I only bought this polish because it was my name!!! It's a nude metallic. I think it's okay for what it is. I wouldn't have bought it though if it was named anything else!

I wish I had found an "Elaine" polish that was really wild. I don't think a nude polish reflects myself at all. I am COLORFUL!! I wish it was like a hot pink holo!! I found a "what nail polish are you?" quiz at http://mysimplelittlepleasures.blogspot.com/ and It turns out I'm magenta! That sounds better!

If you could choose a polish to represent you and be named after you, what would it be?

Your Nail Polish Color is Magenta
How you're unique: You're confident - and you show everyone the true you

Why your style rocks: You have the attitude to carry the most outrageous outfits off

What this color says about you: "Look at me. I know you want to!"

NYX "The Ave" Polishes

I recently went to town on NYX and scooped a ton of new polishes! The ones I was most excited for were the ones above: Blue Ave, Pink Ave, Purple Ave, and Peach Ave. The swatches on the NYX website looked like they would be some sort of flake or something interesting and different. These are definately different! I'm not going to say they are the best flakie polishes on the planet or something, but I do like them.
Blue Ave- Shown alone and over black. Blue jelly base with firey green, shiny, random shaped flakes. This is 2 coats.
Pink Ave- Shown alone and over black. Light, light pink base (pretty much clear) with rainbow shiny flakes. This is 3 coats.
Purple Ave- Shown alone and over black. Purple jelly base with purplish-blue shiny flakes. I think these flakes are the most "glowy" of all of these. This is 1 coat.

Peach Ave- Shown alone and over black. Orange jelly base with orange shiny flakes that flash green. These flakes reminded me most of an opal stone. This is the only one that I can see any real color build in the base. This is 2 coats.

So overall these are cool. They are a bit difficult to work with. Not impossible though. If you noticed that all of the swatches have a different number of coats, but that does not mean everytime you use Purple Ave it will be one coat, and everytime you use Pink Ave it's 3 coats. What it means is that it is random. The application is different for every nail, everytime. It just depends on how much flakie you get on the brush before you start. I had passes with nothing, and passes like that lovely ring finger on Purple Ave that had mega-flake in one stroke.

The base color is what they are named after, however, I don't think the base is what is important. It's the flake. So Blue Ave=green flakes, Pink Ave=Rainbow flakes, Purple Ave=Blue flakes, Peach Ave=Orange/green flakes.

The finish look has a bit of roughness, but a coat or two of Seche Vite smoothes that out. Here is my creation of all the Aves layered over my Blue Sky Chameleon from last week:

It was a multi-colored awesome-fest. I had it on for days. I loved it.

Also, on a completely unrelated note, that black polish in the swatches is Tropez-Black Satin, and it was very easy to apply and perfect in one coat. Best thing? It retails for $1.00!! I got it at Kmart if you're interested!

Since I finally got to finishing my Zoya swatching from my polish exchange, I wanted to share them since there is still time to do some exchanging! I want so many more Zoyas, but I only have maybe two polishes I'm willing to give up! This post has a lot of pics. I hope that is okay. That's what really makes a blog fun, right?! I know I love to look at pics!

Neon Skittles Pedi

Hello! Today I thought I would do something fun for my toes to get them ready for summer! So I did a rainbow-neon pedi! I used: Sinful Colors-Dream On, Sinful Colors-Irish Green, Essie-Flirty Fuchsia, Essie-Funky Limelight. I did a base coat of white for all to get the neon to really pop, and to get it on in less coats. For the big toes I just freehanded the boxes.

Have a lovely holiday!

Petites from D.C.

Hello! Today I am bringing swatches of the other part of my D.C. haul. It's the four Petites I got: Passion Orange, Universe, Hot Sauce, Purely Pearl.
Passion Orange is hot hot hot! It's a creme orange and it is so much brighter than this picture could depict. It's borderline neon. And it's also borderline coral, not so much orange. I love it.
Universe. Whoa whoa whoa! Besides green my favorite color is gold. And not just polish, but everything! And this is such a good add to the gold collection. It's a sheer gold with gold glitter AND gold flakes!! Can you believe this was $1.79? This should have been called "Look Rich Be Cheap"!! I couldn't take the picture in direct sun because so much light reflected back at the camera the light completely took over and you couldn't see the nails at all!

closeup:

Awesomeness.
Hot Sauce. This one is a chameleon. Not that it is a duochrome or color change polish, but everytime I look at it, it looks different to me. Sometimes deep, sometimes bright. Sometimes like a yellow-based tomato red, and others like it's blue-based and like a hot pink/berry-ish. I would call this creme, but in the sun you can see a smidge of shimmer. I really like it!
Purely Pearl. Metallic white. It is awesome and goes on smooth and opaque in 2 coats. I like it a lot. You just have to love it with brush strokes included. I don't think there is a way around it with this one.

AND today I thought I would share my new love! My puppy, Cash. We got him from a shelter and that was his name! I know it's kind of weird. We thought about changing it, but nothing else really hit us. I fell in love with him one day when I went to look at dogs with a friend (bad idea!) and I told my boyfriend about him when I got home and he went back the next day and got him while I was a work!! He is a Schnoodle: half minature schnauzer and half poodle. When we got him his hair was really long! He was so cute and scraggly:
But we had to get him a haircut because it didn't really look like he could see!
He loves this lion.
He's such a good little boy!

Scherer Chameleon

Hello! Sorry for the slow posts! I got a new puppy last week!! And I just went to D.C. for work. BUT... my trip to DC led me to a great polish haul! I found some Chameleon polish and Petites. So today I bring you the Chameleons. In the pic is Blue Frost, Blue Sky and Dreams. They're some awesome duochromes

Dreams - Pinkish white with a green flash.
I was hoping this pic would show the green. It doesn't really. It was hard to capture.
This close up is as best I could get to show it. Overall though this was very pretty. Application was great. 2 coats. Very cool.
Blue Frost - Pale blue with a bright purple flash.
This outdoor pic was the best I could get out of my camera.

And this is my fave: Blue Sky. Ridiculous blue with purple, and sometimes looks green, and teal too. So gorgeous. It's an attention taker. Not bad for a $2.70 polish. I think that is what it was. I can't find the recipt to be sure!
This pic was under low light, but I had to show it because on the left the natural light from outside shows blue, the middle is purple and the lamps inside show green on the right. Amazing!

Nail Polish Wish

I have a wish today. It hit me a week or so ago and I haven't found it yet.

This is my wish: I wish for a dark, forest green foil polish. I one-coat, super pigmented, amazing formula foil. Just like China Glazes Romantiques. But dark forest green. I think that is a good wish. What do you think?

Does anyone know of anything like this? Has my wish come true?

Liberty the polish and the statue!

Good Morning! I went out on the town yesterday on my bicycle, and since it was sunny, I took a couple more pictures of Knockout-Liberty since my other swatches were only indoors. I watch the Today Show every morning, and today they were at the Statue of Liberty, and announced that they would be reopening the crown to the public for the first time since 9/11! Weird. So I figured more pics of Liberty the polish wouldn't be so weird!
